Top Tips for Using Invisalign Successfully

Published by Brian Homann DDS

Invisalign offers a simpler, less intrusive way to straighten your teeth without the encumbrance of standard metal braces. You can eat what you want and you don’t have to worry about the tedious procedure of flossing while avoiding delicate bands and brackets. Invisalign provides clients with a more beautiful smile using an invisible, easy-to-care-for retainer – nevertheless, some simple tips will help make the process even easier.

Keep Trays Sterilized and Organized

As your teeth continue to straighten and move into the proper position, you will be changing your Invisalign retainers as instructed by your provider. You may be tempted to toss the old trays, but it’s a good idea to hang on to them just in case you need those exact trays again at some point during your treatment process. If you clean them with a disinfectant and organize each pair in separate, labeled plastic bags, you will always be prepared.

Wash, Eat, Brush

Mealtime provides the perfect opportunity to wash your Invisalign trays. While you enjoy your meal, simply soak them in warm water and they’ll be fresh and clean when you’re ready to replace them. Also, the warm water may help if your mouth has been feeling dry while you wear the trays. Lastly, make sure you brush your teeth after meals before replacing your Invisalign trays. You don’t want to end up with cavities marring your newly straightened teeth!

Wear Your Invisalign Trays as Often as Possible

Time passes quickly, and before you know it you’ve spent an hour making dinner, and then another twenty minutes eating. The more time your trays remain in place, the faster your teeth will become noticeably straighter. Remember, unless you are eating or brushing and flossing, you should be wearing your Invisalign.

Change Your Trays on Time (And at the Right Time)

Use a calendar to keep track of when it’s time to change out your trays. Actual patients attest to this helpful hint to prevent wearing each set for too long, as that will unduly prolong the process. Additionally, don’t start new trays on Monday mornings, as tempting as that may be. Invisalign is designed to be very comfortable, however, new trays are tight and may create pressure. We suggest changing them on a Friday or Saturday night, take some Advil or Tylenol, and call it a day. Most of the time, by the time you wake up in the morning, the pressure will have subsided.

Most caring dental staff I’ve ever encountered. Every experience has been extremely professional, from just calling to ask a question to cleanings for my whole family and beyond.

Each member of their team genuinely cares about their patients, and knowing I will have the best care every time I walk in the door makes going to the dentist a whole lot easier. Dr. Homan is the best dentist I've ever been to. Most of my co-workers go to Dr. Homan and that's how I heard about him.

I needed a lot of work on my teeth and I'm so glad I found such a great dentist. He explains everything to you and also is very upfront on all posibiltys that's can happen to the tooth he works on and also explains what you can expect after the dental work. He's also very friendly and everyone at the office makes you feel comfortable. Karen and Sandra in the front office are wonderful as well. They also have wonderful dental hygienist. My insurance is not in network with Dr. Homan but it's well worth the extra money to still go to the best!

Dr. Homann's practice is very clean and up to date. His practice also has televisions to watch when you are getting your teeth cleaned or any other work done which is awesome!

The chairs are very comfortable and the staff is very polite. Dr. Homann is also a very knowledgeable dentist with the ability to make every patient feel calm and comfortable no matter what the situation. He also has done volunteer work for the homeless donating his time and resources to help the less fortunate, if that doesn't let you know what kind of practice this is I don't know what will. I will definitely be coming back here again!
