This year, our very own Dr. Brian Homann has been selected as one of the ADA 10 Under 10 Award recipients. Nominations for this award are open to dentists from across the United States and are carefully reviewed to select 10 of the brightest young dentists who have shown outstanding leadership in the various listed categories.
What is the ADA 10 Under 10 Award?
The ADA New Dentist Committee first developed this award in 2017. It’s given in recognition of the 10 top dentists in the United States who have excelled and inspired others in research & education, science, philanthropy, practice excellence, advocacy, and leadership. To be eligible for the award, the dentist must have graduated less than 10 years ago from a dental school that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Philanthropy
Dr. Homann excels in all categories, but his exceptional philanthropic efforts are likely the main reason he was chosen to receive this important award. For 10 years, Dr. Homann helped provide free dental services to homeless individuals at Goldie’s Place in Chicago. He was not only instrumental in expanding the program, but he also helped to add the denture program there.
When Goldie’s Place closed in 2019, Dr. Homann turned his focus to working with an organization that helps new refugees entering the US who are fleeing persecution, Refugee One, to create and open a dental clinic. In 2019, Dr. Homann sponsored the first ever Free Dental Day at our office, providing over $28,000 worth of dental care at no charge to those in need in Elk Grove Village and the surrounding communities. 2020 saw another successful Free Dental Day, providing over $30,000 worth of free care.
Mentoring and Leadership
Dr. Homann helps students provide free care to underserved areas as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry and helps mentor fellow dentists in practice ownership. He has also created a mobile dental set-up for seniors with mobility issues who can’t get to a dental office.
